WE'RE ON OUR WAY !

Stag FM's directors present programming proposals to Radio Authority.

CHAMPAGNE corks were popping this week at Stag FM when the new radio station handed in its proposals for the new independent radio licence to serve the Hertfordshire area to the Radio Authority in London.

Chairman Professor Eric Moonman and vice chairman David Tomlin were in bullish mood on Monday (4 October) as they handed in their application, which represents almost eight years of meticulous research and preparation by the company.

The front cover of the 75-page document was designed by members of the Children's' Integrated Playscheme (CHIPS), a locally-based charity which provides playschemes for disabled and able-bodied children in Hertfordshire, who are supporting the Stag FM bid.

Part of Stag FM's proposals includes a commitment to the scheduling of community programming and information well away from 'ghetto' evening slots. The Communicare scheme will offer community groups a free airtime advertising campaign to publicise their work, which will be aired throughout the day like a paid-for, commercial campaign, confirmed Stag FM.

Professor Moonman commented: "We are delighted with all the messages of support we have received - and are still receiving - from the general public, local charities and from businesses and organisations throughout Hertfordshire.

"What everybody desperately wants is a professional, properly financed station run by experienced people that will ensure that listeners in Hertfordshire receive the quality service that they should expect."

Stag FM, part of DMG Radio which already operates Oasis FM in St. Albans and Watford, wants to run the proposed new station which is expected to serve up to 250,000 people in Hertford, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield and Stevenage.
